Let’s Talk About Nursing Jobs, The Nurse Keith Show, #26

In this episode of The Nurse Keith show, I ruminate about nursing jobs, how to get them, when to leave them, and when you need to create your own.

Get the Job

Lately, I’ve been listening to The Fizzle Show, which, while generally geared towards business owners and entrepreneurs, also covers topics related to being a satisfied, happy 21st-century professional. Episode 114 of The Fizzle Show is titled, “How to Deal With a Job You Loathe“, and it really got me thinking about jobs and what do about them, especially when we’re unhappy.

If your job isn’t the greatest, you have three basic choices:

  1. Can you make your job better?
  2. Can you find another job that will be better?
  3. Do you need to create your own job, so that you never have to show up to someone else’s workplace again?

We Americans really identify with our jobs, and perhaps it’s our totally ingrained Puritan work ethic. Work can be like a marriage, and I discuss this topic during the course of this episode.

So, if you’re unhappy at work, what can you do to make your job better? How can you create what you want? Is it possible?

This episode also covers the notion of the job search and how to approach it in a balanced way. In fact, I discuss that we can choose call it “manifesting” a job rather than “hunting” or “searching”, since hunting generally entails carrying a weapon, killing something, and then eating it or hanging it on your wall.

In order to set yourself up for success in your job search or job manifestation, there are several episodes of “The Nurse Keith Show” that will guide you in particular aspects of that process:

  • For resume success, episode 6 is for you.
  • For help with LinkedIn, try episode 5.
  • To sharpen the tools in your nurse career toolbox (business card, cover letters, etc), episode 11 is the one.
  • If networking is your jam, episode 16 is worth a listen.
  • If informational interviews are in your future, definitely listen to episode 22.
  • And for actual job interviews, tune into episode 18.

This episode is about inspiring you about your making your current job better, if possible, how to focus on finding something new, and a mindset for maximizing your career satisfaction.

Episode 26 is a nice overview of nurses and jobs. Enjoy, and please keep in touch and send me any questions or concerns you may have!
