Nurses in Business, Entrepreneurship, and #NNBA2016, The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 80

Once again, I chose to attend The National Nurses in Business Association (NNBA) annual conference, and like every other time I’ve connected with that community of amazing nurses and nurse entrepreneurs, I once again came away inspired, blown away, and completely fired up about

nurse entrepreneurship!

National Nurses in Business AssociationThe NNBA is the flagship organization for nurse entrepreneurs, and this dynamic organization and community has taken flight since Michelle Podlesni took the helm in 2014. With the help of her intrepid husband, Lou Podlesni, Michelle has grown the NNBA into a mighty force for positivity and community, and the NNBA annual conference is a celebration of what nurses can do when it comes to business and entrepreneurship.

NNBA friendsOne highlight from this year’s conference in Las Vegas include the second annual Shark Tank competition wherein nurses with stellar business ideas pitched those ideas to a trio of “sharks” who chose a winner and awarded her significant prizes and bragging rights.

Other highlights included a keynote address by Louise Jakubik of The Nurse Mentoring Institute and NurseBuilders; a pre-conference workshop by Donna Cardillo; inspiring talks by Jay Steven Levin and Sharon Weinstein; and many others. Nurse Keith himself offered a main stage presentation on networking and branding for the 21st-century nurse entrepreneur, and RNFM Radio presented a 3-hour pre-conference workshop on the power of podcasting.

Keith Carlson, Kati Klieber, Elizabeth Scala, and Kevin RossFrom the pre-con workshops and exhibit tables to the excellent array of 30-minute roundtable discussions on a wide variety of topics of interest to nurses in business, the collective genius of the 160 nurses in attendance was, as Kevin Ross of RNFM Radio likes to say, “off the hook”.

Aside from the presentations, connecting meaningfully with like-minded nurses is where the rubber hits the road at NNBA events, and #NNBA2016 was no exception in this regard. Whether it’s tearing up the dance floor with new and old friends at a nightclub on the Vegas strip, or quietly chatting over coffee during a break in the action, the connections that happen at NNBA events are powerful.

#NNBA2016 fun in Vegas! From my perspective, I solidified friendships with nurses I’d only previously met online or on the phone, made new friends, connected with old friends and colleagues, and even created several potential business alliances that will likely come to fruition over the next few years.

For nurses even marginally interested in business and entrepreneurship, the networking and inspiration that results from being present at the NNBA annual conference is unmatched.

In 2017, the NNBA will be moving from Las Vegas to Florida, meeting at a lovely resort on the ocean from September 8th to September 10th. For you nurses on the East Coast, there’s now no excuse to not attend, and it can’t be stressed enough that #NNBA2017 will be the place to be in the fall of 2017!
