Overcoming Objections During Nursing Job Interviews | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 137

On December 4th, 2017, I published a blog post all about overcoming objections in nursing job interviews.

Objections are statements by a potential employer or interviewer when they are attempting to explain why you’re not the best fit for the job. Such objections are sometimes raised in order to see what the applicant is made of and how he or she will respond. Responding is the interviewee’s moment to make the strongest case possible in his or her own interest. Overcoming objections is an important interview skill.

Giving Thanks For Nurses in Business | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 135

On episode 135 of The Nurse Keith Show, I wax poetic about the National Nurses in Business Association annual conference, nurse innovators, nurse entrepreneurs, and how exciting it is that nurses can enter the business world with their heads held high, earn extra income, and bring their gifts and ideas to the world.

When the Career Cookie Crumbles | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 134

On November 13th, 2017, I published a blog post focused on the notion of a nurse’s career cookies crumbling and things going south. I hear stories from nurses about hard moments in the course of a career, and I see how much pain and confusion this can cause.

The Three-Dimensional Job Search | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 133

On November 6th, 2017, I published a blog post titled, The Three-Dimensional Job Search.  This concept of the job search process as one- or three-dimensional had been on my mind a great deal, and it finally spilled out onto the digital page. Has your job search process been one-dimensional?

Doing Your Inner Work | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 132

On October 30, 2017, I published a blog post titled, Doing Your Inner Work as a Nurse. This is something dear to my heart — I’m constantly striving to grow as a person and as a nursing professional, and I’ve found that our professional growth can be hindered when we don’t do the work on ourselves that promotes personal growth (and this can be referred to as our “inner work”).

Managing Multiple Nursing Job Offers | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 131

When you’re in the nursing job market, receiving a job offer can feel like a lifeline has been thrown your way. And when you get multiple job offers, it’s truly an embarrassment of riches that looks more like a lifeboat!

The Nurse’s Inner Critic | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 130

There’s a saying that everyone’s a critic, and that probably couldn’t be more true of nurses. We criticize other nurses (often in the form of bullying), doctors, patients and their families, our employers, and the healthcare system writ large. But we mostly criticize ourselves. That gets old, doesn’t it?

You're just not good enough. Continue reading “The Nurse’s Inner Critic | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 130” »

Nurses and Mass Shootings | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 129

In the aftermath of the October 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, I feel a need to respond to what happened in relation to the nurses and healthcare professionals who are impacted by such events. With more than 250 mass shootings in the U.S. in the first nine months of 2017, the healthcare community is at the center of response efforts when large numbers of people are violently injured en masse.

Curiosity, Passion, Purpose, and Your Nursing Career | The Nurse Keith Show, EPS 128

Just today, I was speaking to a nurse career coaching client on the phone, and the word curiosity became the central theme of what I was trying to convey to her about her nursing career. When it comes to career development, we don’t often hear the word curiosity used, but I believe it needs to be one of the strongest underpinnings of our ongoing career journey whether we’re a nurse, a doctor, a carpenter, or an accountant.
